What are the birds on the sign about?
Those are Guinea Fowl, or “Guinea Hens” as Sam calls them. Celia grew up in the Knob Creek area and when she was young, there was always a flock of these hens standing in the middle of W. Oakland Avenue as you drove around the curve where Juniper is now located. We would always have to slow down to let them scatter. Sam would then make a joke about Benny Hinn, the Preacher. You can also find “Ginny” the Guinea on our kid’s menu!
Fun fact: a group of guinea fowl is called a confusion
What’s that big old building beside you?
That is The Bashor-Denny Mill that was built sometime before 1832. It is a great piece of the Historic Knob Creek District. If you'd like to find out more, please visit our up-hill neighbors at The Knob Creek Historical Museum.
